We, MeCrowd aim to donate approximately RM3000 to Dignity & Services. With these funds, we will be supporting 10 members of the OPTIONS Supported Living project under Dignity & Service weekend meals for RM60 per adult with learning disabilities per month for 5 months which enables them to buy ingredients and prepare their meals.

 

Options for Supported Living project

Options for Supported Living project enables the adults with learning disabilities to learn basic life skills on their own, without the usual parental or guardian supervision. The project alternates between a one-night stay and a 2-night stay at a home in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail where the adults with learning disabilities (18-year-old and above) and the support staff from Dignity & Services stay together.

 

 

For a little charge, they will be presented to different everyday exercises. Then, with the support of Dignity & Services staffs, the AwLD will discuss among themselves about the weekend’s menu which includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner and what they want to buy to cook their meals and come up with a grocery list. Then, the staff and/ or volunteers will bring them out for groceries shopping to buy what they have decided to put on their list. The goal is two-pronged as it is planned for empowering guardians/parents/caregivers to 'let go' as well.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Upon effectively learning the skills at the supported-living project, the youthful grownups may decide to advance to work with D&S social enterprise, Bake with Dignity or any other workplace that employs special needs staff.

 

 

 

With the empowerment project of Supported Living, we shall receive the outcome & impact as below:

Outcome

• Individuals with more severe disabilities have an opportunity to learn self-help skills and a chance to stay out of their sheltered environment
• Persons with learning disabilities being trained with a specific skill (as one of the Supported Living project is to observe individual strength and train them under their very own unique capacity) 
• Improve gross and fine motor skills for Individuals with physical difficulty
• An opportunity for persons with learning disabilities to develop specific work skills, social interaction skills & travel skills
• Develop a healthy hobby to be used during leisure 

Impact

• Create valued roles and fuller participation in the mainstream of the community.
• Supported Living project is a potential model for replication in many other locations
• Raise awareness on disability being a highly visible project
• Provide a positive image that persons with learning disabilities can lead productive lives and contribute back to society
• Increase self-esteem and confidence level of persons with learning disabilities
